Explore the Wonders of Belgium

Because of its small size, Belgium is often overlooked by travelers visiting Europe. However, its small size may actually be a benefit because it makes the country easy to travel. If you’re planning a trip to Europe, don’t leave this country off your itinerary. Below are some of the main cities and attractions to see in this often overlooked gem.

What to See and Do in Brussels

Brussels is probably the most well-known city in the country because it’s not only the capital of Belgium, it’s also the home of the EU. Don’t be fooled, this isn’t all there is to this city. Start your stay in Brussels by visiting Lower Town and the iconic Grand-Place, a beautiful city square that rivals most of Europe’s most famous squares. The area around the Grand-Place includes beautiful cobbled alleys, impressive Baroque and Gothic architecture, and a bustling city. Definitely take some time to shop for some of Belgium’s world-famous chocolate while in this area. Next, head over to Palais Royal de Bruxelles, the palace where the royal family still resides. There are plenty of open-air markets to explore, contemporary art galleries, and you can find some of the finest art at the Musee Royaux des Beaux Arts. Brussels is also the perfect departure point for a trip to Waterloo.

See the Best of Antwerp

Antwerp is a small city near Belgium’s border with the Netherlands packed full of some incredible sites and delicious treats. If you arrive at Station Antwerpen-Centraal, take some time to explore this site. It probably won’t surprise you to learn that this station has been named the most beautiful railway station in the world. Other points of interest include the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Grote Market, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, Vlaeykensgang, and Cafe Kulminator, one of the best beer bars in the world. While you’re in Belgium, do your best to explore the local flavors. There are tons of local beers to try, delicious chocolate to taste, and, of course, their world famous waffles and treats. While in Antwerp, pick up some local treats and have a picnic at the Park Spoor Noord where you can take a break from the city. Walk off those treats while exploring the city center and the daily open-air markets.

The food was first class. I do not think we missed an important historical place or landmark from the Golan Heights to Eilat.
